About Our Section
We are the Dallas based section of the Illuminating Engineering Society, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to all aspects of the ART and SCIENCE of ILLUMINATION.
The IES is the recognized technical authority on illumination. For over a century its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers through a variety of programs, publications and services. The strength of the IES is its diversified membership consisting of: engineers, architects, designers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, manufacturers, and scientists, all contributing to the mission of the society: to advance knowledge and disseminate information of the improvement of the lighted environment to the benefit of society.
The IES is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information and a vehicle for its members professional development and recognition. Through its committees, with hundreds of qualified members from the lighting and user communities, the IES correlates research, investigations, and discussions to guide lighting experts and laypersons via consensus-based lighting recommendations.

It is fitting that we are able to honor Candace and Michael Candace M. Kling together, as they had the two most recognizable laughs in the industry. Thankfully for those of us who knew them we were able to hear them quite often. Often overlooked is Candace’s ability to teach and mentor. Many of her one time junior employees continue to have thriving careers in lighting design. She was an amazing one on one educator, making certain that you understood the reason behind the design. And never forgetting that an important part of design is instinct and having a little fun. She also made it possible to give back. Not only encouraging but almost requiring her staff to participate in the IES and IALD.
—David Ghatan

Michael never claimed perfection and his eccentricsMichael B. Klein brought more attention to his world. His full head of white hair coupled with his bow ties and his eclectic combination of colors brought spontaneity and joy to all of us. And these simple yet significant ways presented a synergy of energy for all of us. And these eccentrics brought Michael to the forefront in planning and acting out the annual progress report to the IES. Only Michael could pull this off and be loved by all.
