PNNL: Distributed Spectral Sensors in Action: Accelerating Commissioning and Verification

June 25, 2026
12:00 pm

PNNL researchers deployed more than 30 distributed spectral sensors at a federal building in downtown Chicago. The sensors record the SPD every 3 minutes, resulting in over 100,000 data points daily. Research objectives include characterizing the amount of light in the vertical plane throughout the day, how different circadian metrics vary throughout the day, the pros and cons of distributed sensors, and understanding if the sensors can speed commissioning of lighting systems designed to meet circadian recommendations.
