phantom array effect

[5.9.9.11] A change in perceived shape or spatial positions of objects, induced by a light stimulus the luminance or spectral distribution of which fluctuates with time, for a non-static observer using large saccades in a static or non-static environment. (Source: CIE TN 006:2016, modified.)

Note: The apparent movement is due to the eye saccade that occurs while scanning a room or roadway for faces, objects, or on-coming traffic. This relative movement creates discrete visual artifacts that appear to be tracks, a series of dots, or dashed lines across the retina.
