Cristian Suvagau

Cristian Suvagau, Ph.D., P.Eng., LC, CEM, MIES, MCIE
Dr. Cristian Suvagau has been practicing and teaching architectural lighting design and energy efficiency in Europe and North America for over 35 years. He is a lighting and energy management engineer, and a team lead in the Innovation and Delivery Engineering Department of BC Hydro, where he is currently involved in developing of BC Hydro’s integrated programs for energy efficiency, low carbon electrification and demand reduction.
Cristian is a Professional Engineer and holds a PhD in Lighting from the Technical University of Construction in Bucharest, Romania. Cristian is a Past-President of the Vancouver section of the IES and newly nominated on the IES National Board of Directors.
Cristian has a long-standing involvement with standard development being now Chair of the TC419 Committee on Performance of Lighting Equipment of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and President of the Canadian National Committee of the International Commission on Illumination (CNC/CIE). Cristian also participates actively with other standards organizations like IES, Design Lighting Consortium (DLC), Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) to develop performance standards for lighting and control equipment.
Cristian is also teaching lighting classes for continuous education and is often presenting at industry seminars, while authoring numerous technical lighting articles for publications around the world. He is currently an adjunct professor with the New York Institute of Technology (Vancouver campus) since 2016.
