Lighting design by Ning Field Lighting Design Corp., Ltd. inside a semi-enclosed concert hall helps the structure seamlessly blend into its surrounding area—a peaceful spot near The Great Wall in Chengde, Hebei Province, China.

How They Did It: "Chapel of Sound"

  1. The distinctive performance hall is illuminated with a combination of sunlight and downlights flush-recessed into the concrete ceiling, which create the effect of holes.
  2. Dark-light reflector downlights provide guests with visual comfort as well as the opportunity to see the stars through the large opening in the ceiling.
  3. A spotlight at the top of the entryway invites visitors inside with a warm welcome.
