A stadium-wide controls system manages operations at the home of the Green Bay Packers.Home to the Green Bay Packers for over 50 years, Lambeau Field is one of the most iconic sporting venues in the U.S. However, decades of renovations left the stadium reliant on over 12 disparate lighting control systems from different manufacturers that were not fully integrated, sparking the search for a single provider that could unify and standardize solutions into one ecosystem.
Crestron created and installed the new facility-wide lighting automation system, which allows stadium management to control fixtures and monitor energy use from a single platform. “In the last year, stadium usage and capacity changed dramatically,” adds Bill Schafer, VP of commercial lighting at Crestron. “The new system is highly scalable—it can be configured and built upon as the stadium’s needs change and we look ahead to the future of live events.”
The controls system is used across the 2 million-sq ft stadium, controlling concourses, suites, club seats, event spaces, parking lots and façade lighting.

With various exhibits and displays located throughout the facility, having one single point of lighting control helps streamline operations.

Facilities personnel can proactively monitor functionality instead of having to react to situations, ensuring that the lighting will work as intended when the stadium’s 80,000-plus seats fill up on game days.

The entire stadium, including off-field spaces like the pro shop, benefits from robust information security standards, which are built into the automation system and integrate with Lambeau Field’s enterprise-wide IT infrastructure.

System flexibility also supports growth in the coming years. “As we renovate areas of the building, we’ll have the option to create unique lighting scenes that will only add to the fan experience,” says Anne Larson, facilities office coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.
