PNNL: Resources for Schools Updating to LED

February 13, 2025
PNNL | Upgrading Linear Fluorescent Fixtures to LED in Schools

The most recent edition of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Lighting Market Characterization report illustrates a clear need for LED upgrades among U.S. schools; in response, DOE researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) are conducting field studies, surveys, and leveraging industry partnerships to develop guidance for schools aiming to implement the much-needed upgrades.

Three new papers, Upgrading Linear Flourescent Fixtures to LED in Schools, Lighting Specification Guidance for Schools, and Why Tunable? A Look at Schools Using Tunable Lighting, provide information intended for school administrators, faculty, and staff on factors to consider when deciding on LED upgrades; a reference tool for evaluating product offerings; and examples of institutions with tunable installations across the country, respectively. These resources are the most recent edition to the DOE’s Efficient and Healthy Schools Program.
