ICEL Certified | LIA Launches Updated ICEL Product Certification Model

The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) of Europe and its Committee For Emergency Lighting (ICEL) division, which is dedicated to strengthening the emergency lighting industry via promotion of high-quality products, have enhanced the ICEL Product Certification Scheme from an endorsed model to a certified model. The goal of the new scheme is to offer greater assurance of quality of emergency lighting products, and a key facet of the update is that manufacturers must now provide photometric data to be reviewed by The LIA.

Providing independent verification of relevant products, the updated version and the official ICEL Certification mark promises that products have undergone a thorough evaluation to ensure products and technical documentation meet required standards and verify claims made by manufacturers. Luminaires, control gears and batteries that conform to the Low Voltage Directive and the UK Electrical Equipment (Safety) regulations are covered under the new scheme; for companies participating in the previous model, there will be a transitional period to promote a seamless shift to new certification requirements.

CEO of The LIA Ayca Donaghy says, “This scheme is a testament to our commitment to quality and compliance, one of the key priorities of The LIA President’s strategic focus for 2024. By setting a new standard for certification, we are helping to ensure that all stakeholders can have complete confidence in the products they use.”
