John Levy Lighting Productions, Inc transformed a 126,000-sq ft warehouse-like space into a story-ready immersive retail, art and entertainment complex to earn a 2023 IES Illumination Award of Merit.
- The story of AREA 15 is that it is reclaimed from an ancient alien factory, so to create an out-of-this-world experience, designers implemented high-power, human-safe UV lighting for an indigo “Velvet” aesthetic in the main area known as the “Spine.
- Architectural features were “wash textured and picked” with theatrical lighting to support the cosmic narrative.
- Multiple vignette rooms including “The Beast” restaurant, “Wink World” infinity experience, the “Sanctuary” lounge and more have further curated lighting design and effects. The “Portal” (pictured) has a RGBW house system with individually controllable lights as well as event/club lighting and projection mapping.
