How They Did It: Xi’an Silk Road International Conference Center, China

Using concealed fixtures, Toryo International Lighting Design Center illuminated a conference center’s exterior eaves to emulate white crescent moons and earn an IES Illumination Award of Merit.

A 5000K color temperature highlights the upper eaves’ crescent shape, while 4000K on the lower eaves illuminates the ground and makes the structure appear to float. Along the glass curtain wall, fixtures are arranged so exterior and interior lighting blend into an integral whole. Photo: Hongyi Lou
