Connected Network Headed to Grand Rapids

October 4, 2023

Grand Rapids, MI, is upping its lighting infrastructure game with the installation of over 18,000 smart lighting nodes and a new connected network. Part of a push to increase energy efficiency, the new lighting scheme will use the Diminoff SCMC Urban Asset Management Platform as the control center for the connected network, allowing the city to remotely access, monitor and control the lighting system in real time. In addition to enhanced energy management, the program allows for proactive management of light bulb failures, tailored safety conditions and tightened security. James Hurt, the city’s managing director of public services says, “This smart street lighting initiative is a game changer for our city. By harnessing innovative technologies, we will improve the quality of life for our residents.” City officials expect the project to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.
