The nonprofit National Lighting Bureau (NLB) has announced the winners of the 5th Annual Tesla Awards after receiving the highest number of submissions to date. The award program seeks to recognize design projects that advance lighting excellence and innovation through best lighting practices to create an inviting, healthier and more sustainable future; winning projects promote health and wellness, productivity, safety and security, visual comfort, control of light pollution, retail/commercial performance and entertainment. Winners were announced at a special ceremony held during LEDucation in March in New York City, which was hosted by NLB Chair Mary Beth Gotti and NLB Executive Director Tom Butters. Recipients of the Tesla Awards of Excellence are as follows:
- Cline Bettridge Berstein Lighting Design: Yale University Sterling Memorial Library, Nave & Exhibition Gallery in New Haven, CT
- Lighting Design Alliance: Jio World Centre in Mumbai, India and Palmilla Cocina y Tequila in Newport Beach, CA
- LS Group: Casa Marea in Los Cabos, Mexico
Recipients of Awards of Merit include:
- Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design: Charles R. Jones Federal Building and Courthouse in Charlotte, NC
- Electrolight: The Matheson in Healdsburg, CA and PHX Suns Arena in Phoenix, AZ
- Licht Kunst Licht AG: Casals Forum, Kronberg Academy, in Hesse, Germany
- Stantec: Confidential Global Technology Company Office in Redmond, WA
Recipients of Special Citations include:
- ANDRES + PARTNER for design of a daylight system for a control center in West Germany
- Electrolight for demonstrating effective color-tuning in a work environment at the WestBridge Capital in San Mateo, CA
- Fisher Marantz Stone for lobby retrofit lighting design at the Safeco Plaza in Seattle, WA
- Morlights for effective use of wireless DALI controls in the Indian Community School in Franklin, WI
- Paragon for effective use of light to make historic and contemporary buildings cohesive at the Hotel West and Main in Conshohocken, PA
- Schuler Shook for illustrating the successful rebirth of the luminous ceiling in a commercial office at Optiver in Chicago.
