SUMMARY:Modern Slopeside Hideaway
DESCRIPTION:Modern Slopeside Hideaway: The Art of Invisible Lighting \nJoin AKLD and Luminii for a collaborative discussion exploring the lighting design and partnership between lighting designer and manufacturer that brought the vision of the Modern Slopeside Hideaway to life. \nRooted in restraint\, precision\, and a deep connection to its mountain setting\, the project demonstrates how lighting can elevate architecture without competing with it. Nearly all illumination is seamlessly integrated into the architecture\, allowing the surrounding landscape and exterior views to remain the focus. \nThe discussion will explore the collaboration between AKLD and Luminii\, including extensive 3D-printed mockups used to refine integration and performance\, as well as an innovative remote DMX control approach that delivers exceptional flexibility while reducing infrastructure\, wiring\, and installation requirements. \nDiscover how thoughtful collaboration\, technical innovation\, and precision detailing make invisible lighting an essential part of the architectural experience. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:IES District 2 — Illuminating Mayflower II for America’s 250th
DESCRIPTION:Join District 2 for the first in a series of virtual webinars. \nThis session will start with a District 2 update from AJ Hetzke\, who currently serves on the Board of Directors of the society and is Northeast Regional Director. \nAJ Hetzke and Javid Butler will then talk about their experience illuminating the Mayflower. The management team at the Plimoth Patuxet Museum wanted to illuminate Mayflower II in patriotic colors for the ship’s participation in Sail Boston 2026\, the gathering of over 50 tall ships from around the world to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.  The challenge was how to provide effective temporary illumination while simultaneously keeping equipment out of the way of visitors and active ship operations. \nCEUs pending. If register individually for the session we can track your attendance for potential CEUs. If you would like to host a viewing session\, feel free to have one person register and share the presentation\, and submit a roster of attendees who wish to receive CEUs\, including name and email address. \nRegister Here \nSpeakers\nAJ Hetzke\nAJ is the founder and General Manager of IlluminFx lighting systems\, a specialty lighting manufacturer he started in 2000. He has been in the lighting industry for almost 40 years\, gaining experience in almost every area of lighting application\, including engineering & design\, procurement\, project management\, sales\,  construction and supply chain management\, and was awarded a US Patent for his invention of a submersible fiber optic lighting system.\nAn active 30 year member of the Illuminating Engineering Society\, AJ currently serves on the Board of Directors of the society and is Northeast Regional Director\, overseeing IES Sections in eastern Canada and the Northeast United States \nJavid Butler\nJavid Butler is an owner of Goddard Design LLC\, continuing the more than 35 year history of high quality DMX512 products started by Bob Goddard in the 1980’s. He currently co-chairs the ESTA Control Protocols Working Group\, which maintains the DMX512 standard and many other entertainment communication standards\, and the ESTA Photometrics Working Group\, where his experience with LED lighting helps guide new standards in color control. His class\, “Controlling Color with LED Lighting” Is always well attended and well received. Javid is President of the IES Las Vegas Section. \n[{"id":3380\,"src":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/php3ALjSo"\,"thumb":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/thumbs\/thumb\/php3ALjSo-thumb.webp"\,"alt":"php3ALjSo"\,"caption":""\,"w":1280\,"h":853}\,{"id":3381\,"src":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/phpTxfwzP"\,"thumb":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/thumbs\/thumb\/phpTxfwzP-thumb.webp"\,"alt":"phpTxfwzP"\,"caption":""\,"w":1280\,"h":853}\,{"id":3382\,"src":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/phpcwNvUm"\,"thumb":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/thumbs\/thumb\/phpcwNvUm-thumb.webp"\,"alt":"phpcwNvUm"\,"caption":""\,"w":653\,"h":980}\,{"id":3383\,"src":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/phpFVjjnG"\,"thumb":"https:\/\/cdn.ies.org\/iesorg_gallery\/galleries\/221-illuminating-mayflower-ii-for-americas-250th\/thumbs\/thumb\/phpFVjjnG-thumb.webp"\,"alt":"phpFVjjnG"\,"caption":""\,"w":1280\,"h":853}]׋›

SUMMARY:AI- A Necessary Evil?
DESCRIPTION:An article in the Washington Post (Nov. 3\, 2026) about Google’s AI division claimed that “some staff members are forbidden by their employment contracts from criticizing the company for the rest of their lives\, even if they leave the firm”. The article focused on employee’s inability to voice concerns about AI projects they are working on. The Executive Director of the AI Futures Project and former OpenAI researcher believes there is an 18% chance that AI will eliminate humanity by the end of this decade. The Godfather of AI\, Nobel Prize recipient Geoff Hinton\, thinks that “humans may be just one phase in the evolution of intelligence” and is speaking out about AI threats to all of us. \nCNBC reported on November 4th that in the recent midterm elections voters passed restrictions on data centers in 40 of the 41 state ballot measures. MIT and Harvard research shows cognitive decline from AI use. Public pushback is strengthening. Emerging professionals are disproportionally impacted by reduced entry level opportunities and their ability to gain experience and expertise from employment. AI is too beneficial to our lighting community to fade away but users should be alert to the sacrifices that usage brings. This session will address benefits and risks for lighting professionals using artificial intelligence. \n\n\nFree registration for members / $29 USD for Non-Members\nRegistration for this event ends on Thursday\, December 17\, 2026 at 12:00 PM (ET)\nParticipants will receive one (1) IES continuing education credits (CEUs)
