Light + Justice Symposium 2024: Interior Spaces

April 5, 2024
United States

Everyone deserves good lighting and beneficial darkness, especially indoors, where most of us spend most of our time. Good lighting is an investment in occupant satisfaction, well-being, and productivity.  On Friday April 5, 2024, the IES, in collaboration with Light Justice and Parsons School of Design, will hold a symposium to explore how indoor lighting quality – especially in public facilities – is generally neglected for marginalized, under-resourced, and vulnerable occupants. This is an opportunity for lighting professionals to understand and address inequities that disproportionately diminish visual quality for people of color, the aging, the impaired, and the incarcerated. Sessions will address how to engage with these communities along with case studies of equitable lighting for public housing and other facilities by lighting, design, and outreach experts. This hybrid event will be held live at Parsons’ Wollmann Hall in New York City and online for a virtual audience. The event will be recorded for registered attendees who will be eligible for up to 4.5 hours of continued education credits. Details regarding the program, times, and registration will be available early March.
