Meyda Celebrates Golden Anniversary

Meyda Lighting, a designer and manufacturer of iconic stained-glass fixtures, lamps and windows, founded by married couple Meyer and Ida Cohen in 1974, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Started in a kitchen, moved into a basement and first sold from a front porch in upstate New York, Meyda continues its legacy as a family-run business. The company boasts numerous accomplishments such as building the business for the wholesale market; acquiring Quality Bent Glass, which was best known for supplying fixtures and components to the original Louis C. Tiffany Studios, as well as 2nd Ave Lighting; successfully marketing the well-recognized 12-in. “Mini Tiffany” lamp; building the world’s largest freestanding chandelier as of 2008, standing at 11 ft tall, 35 ft wide and weighing 7,000 pounds; and contributing over $1 million to national charities including the American Heart Association and Make a Wish Foundation, among others.
