The “Formula 1® Exhibition” tells the past, present and future stories of international single-seat, open-wheel, open-cockpit racecar driving. After five years in the making, the multimedia installation opened at IFEMA MADRID in Spain to include audio-visuals, artifacts, interviews and more designed to give fans the unique experience of riding side-car with their favorite sport. The project produced by Round Room Studios and Pathfinder Studio features lighting design by Michael Grubb Studio in collaboration with Alastair McCaw, director of Real Studios, with fixtures by numerous manufacturers: Architainment, LEDFlex, Optelma, Prolicht, Stoane Lighting, UFO Lighting and Unibox.
“We recognized early on that lighting is a critical part of the experience of this exhibition,” said Tim Harvey, managing partner at Round Room Studios. “The lighting supports the narrative of each individual gallery space and helps bring the story to life.” (Upper Image)
^ The space transforms into a functional display with cooler light tones for the “Design Lab,” in which guests get a closer look at the design and manufacturing processes at an F1 factory.
^ Fans live the speed and chaos of the race circuit in the “Drivers and Duels” gallery, made dramatic with heightened illumination.
^ Lighting sets the tone for a cinematic atmosphere in the first gallery: “Once Upon a Time in Formula 1.”
^ The exhibit culminates in “The Pit Wall,” which allows visitors a chance to relive the greatest F1 moments of all time.
